Des Moines-based 3XWrestling proudly congratulates always-exhilarating aerial specialist Mike Sydal on being selected the 2009 Pro Wrestling Illustrated “Rookie of the Year.”

Sydal, who is currently one-half of the 3XW Tag Team champions The High Flyers (with “Unbreakable” Zach Thompson), won with 24% of the total vote, beating out TNA Wrestling rookie sensation Jesse Neal.

Widely known around the Midwest wrestling scene for his breathtaking high-flying maneuvers and unbelievable speed in the ring, Sydal is the brother of current WWE superstar Evan “Matt Sydal” Bourne. He’s recently branched out to competing on the east coast in states such as Florida and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania’s famous ECW Arena.

Sydal joins an illustrious group of previous award winners that includes luminaries such as Larry Zbyszko, “Nature Boy” Ric Flair, Bob Backlund, Ricky “the Dragon” Steamboat, “Wildfire” Tommy Rich, Terry Taylor, Nord the Barbarian, “Total Package” Lex Luger, Owen Hart, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, “Das Wunderkind” Alex Wright, The Giant, Goldberg, Kurt Angle, Randy Orton and fellow former 3XW competitor Zach Gowen.

Sydal’s next wrestling appearance in on Feb. 5 in Des Moines, Iowa as part of 3XW’s Reign of Terror event at the Des Moines Social Club. Sydal teams up with Thompson to defend the 3XW Tag Team titles against The Gentlemen’s Club – Mark Sterling and Gage Octane with Todd Countryman. This is a rematch of the spectacular August battle between these teams at the King of Des Moines Tournament event.

WWE Supershow Results from Macon, Georgia (1/30/10)
Posted on January 31st, 2010 at 8:09 am by Wrestling News

wwe-supershow

Johnny Hollie sent this report.

I just got home from the Super Show at the Macon Centreplex here’s a quick rundown of the results.

1. Yoshi Tatsu defeated Zach Ryder with spin kick off the top rope.

2. Intercontinental Title match Drew McIntyre defeated John Morrison with his feet on the ropes.

3. The Bella Twins defeated Layla and Natalya Niedhart I can see why the Bellas don’t wrestle much on TV.

4. Finley defeated Tyler Reks with a shillelagh shot.

5. US Title Match The Miz defeated MVP with the skull crushing finale.

6. ECW Title Match Christian defeated Ezekiel Jackson with the Kill switch.

7. Big Show defeated Mark Henry in a total squash this is the complete match Big show stalls then goes for a test of strength then kicks Henry’s hand away then punch him it was over in seconds.

8. DX and Kofi Kingston defeated Legacy when DiBiase got clocked with the tag belt by Rhodes then Kofi hit trouble in Paradise on Orton then Cody got Super kicked and then got hit by the Pedigree.

9. WWE Title Match John Cena defeated Sheamus by DQ.

Biggest pops DX, John Cena, MVP, and for some reason Big Show.

Biggest heat I would say Sheamus drew the biggest heat of the night.

Eric Woods sent this report.

Got into the Macon Centerplex about 7:45 because of traffic so I missed the first 10 or so minutes.

Just ending as we arrived: Drew McIntyre defeated John Morrison. Morrison sold a knee injury the entire way to the locker room.

The Bella Twins defeated Layla and ? Not a bad match.

Finlay defeated Tyler Reks with a knock on the head with the shillelagh (or as Tony Schiavone would say, an international object). Referee missed it of course.

The Miz defeated MVP to retain the US title.

Christian defeated Ezekiel Jackson in a great match. If they put one together like this tomorrow for the PPV it will be great.

Big Show defeated Mark Henry with a punch. The match was shorter than Mark Henry slowly walking to the ring. Big Show got a great ovation.

DX and Kofi defeated Orton, Rhodes and DiBiase as all 3 got to hit their finishers. Crowd was really into Michaels and HHH. At one point in the match members of the Legacy all got their trunks pulled down for an impromptu “moon over Macon”.

Cena defeated Sheamus by DQ when Sheamus shoved the referee. The end came with the ref calling the match as Cena had Sheamus in the STF and Sheamus was tapping out. Post match beat down by Sheamus on Cena followed by a Cena recovery and beatdown of Sheamus while he was posing.

All in all it was a solid show. Better than the one I saw in Columbus about 2.5 years ago. Michaels and HHH did a great job of shaking hands with the fans and high fiving everyone. Good mic work by Tyler Reks, The Miz, and Sheamus as they attempted to generate some animosity from the fans.

Arena was 95% full. Saw TNA in the same venue last year and I think TNA did a much better job with the talent interacting and trying to connect with the fans, but the WWE product as a whole was much better in terms of talent and matches and they drew twice the crowd of TNA.
